The FAA said the existing rotorcraft standards did not adequately cover this design feature. Those standards assumed that pilots would receive tactile feedback through mechanical controls.
The new conditions require the system’s functions, controls, indications and alerts to minimize crew error and confusion. That requirement includes degraded functions needed for continued safe flight and landing.
The system must show its current operating mode to the pilot. Controls and indications must be grouped and presented so their functions are clear.
Displayed information also must remain visible under all expected lighting conditions.

The notice also says Skyryse’s system would not change the engine, main rotor, tail rotor or physical travel limits of the flight-control surfaces.
